Faith-Filled Families
Adult Ed A
Where is that instruction manual on raising kids and nurturing healthy families and relationships? The goods news is you are not alone and there are things you can do to come alongside of your children and teens in relevant and meaningful ways sharing your faith with them along the way. In fact, as adults if our faith life and relationships aren't seeking to be authentic, vibrant and growing … why on earth would we expect our children's to be. Please join us in the New Year for 2 family class Sunday Morning series' – one 4-week series before Lent/Easter and one 4-week series in the spring. We are also exploring other "family" class options outside of the Sunday Morning CE Hour so stay tuned for more details. Our planning team consists of Kathy McDonald, Devon Singh-Barrett, Mary Ellen Johnson, Hannah Kelley, Lindsay Murphy, Jennifer Reeve-Parker and Steph Boyer.
Pressing Issues of Our Time
Adult Ed A
Reconveins in March
ESL Class
Adult Ed B
In recognition of the diversity of people in our congregation, we are pleased to offer an informal Bible study to those for whom English is not their first language. The information presented is easily understood, and it is not necessary to have knowledge of the Bible in order to attend the class. Sometimes we study the Scriptures that are used in the worship services so that the sermons can be better understood. Sometimes we study Scriptures related to a church season like Advent. We work to understand the background of the Scripture passages, what they meant to the people in the time they were written and what they might mean to us today. We have focused on the life and ministry of Jesus. (More info on pg.6).
The class is led by Rev Dr Rita-Lou Clarke, Parish Associate at MIPC. Assisting is Kyung Kim, member of MIPC and a recent graduate of a Korean Seminary here in the Northwest. Everyone is welcome, and we do participate in the socials offered by the Growing in Faith Class.
Growing in Faith
Fireside Room
Our class offers Bible oriented studies for a broad range of adults on a variety of topics. We also offer a place for people to become connected with one another as all of us proceed down the road of faith. We are pleased to announce the launching of a new program of study, and this is Bible People: Women and we begin this program in December. The program is based upon the study book with the same title, by Joy A. Lawler.
Each week we will be studying one or more important women in the Bible, and our studies will be led by class members. The schedule is as follows: January 8 – Rahab and the woman caught in adultery; January 15 – We join the General Session for all classes with Amy-Jill Levine as the special speaker; January 22 – Rebekah and Bathsheba. Come and enjoy this most interesting series!
On January 29 we begin our Lenten series which will be based upon a set of truly intriguing materials. These materials are 24 hours That Changed the World by Adam Hamilton. This author identifies seven important events which occurred during the 24 hours before Jesus died on the cross and there is a lesson for each one of these events. Further, for each one there is a video which takes you to Israel and to the place where each of the events is believed to have occurred. Each study presents an intense look at the event in question and each study brings insight into that event. The first three of these are as follows: January 29 – The Last Supper; February 5 – The Garden; and, February 12 – Condemnation. Join us as we begin to prepare our hearts for Easter this year!
Mid-Week Adult CE
Women's Bible Study
Mondays, 10:00-11:30am, Fireside Room
Women of all ages and stages in life are invited to join other women for an opportunity to study and discuss biblical texts in a devotional/fellowship format. A new curriculum entitled "Bible People" will be studied throughout this year. The year will consist of 7 weeks on each of four subjects: Missionaries, Disciples, Prophets, and Women. The purpose of these studies is to help us learn from the lives and ministries of some of the people in the Bible who have made significant impacts on the communities of their time and who have contributed toward God's design for a God-centered life for all people, including us. To help focus our time, three organizing questions for each session provide a direction for investigation. What does the Bible say about the person? What else would we like to know about the Bible person? How does what I know about this person affect my life and faith? This study will help you apply your new insights to your own life. Study books will be provided. Our study begins with Missionaries in the Bible. For more information, please contact Marilyn Handeland at ehandeland@msn.com or Halie Dodrill at halie@dodrill.net.
Men's Small Group Bible Study
Tuesdays, 7:00 AM, Fireside Room
Are you interested in being a part of a small group of men, of all ages, studying the Bible and building community here at MIPC? Bring your Bible and a hot beverage and get your day started right! We'll choose the book of the Bible once we have our first gathering in late September. As one of the men in our group (Doug Stovall) recently said, "This is the first men’s bible study I have participated in and it has exceeded my expectations in all areas. Great leader, excellent guys and wonderful subject matter." Contact Greg Williams at gregory@gmail.com for more details
Young Adult Offering
Last Spring Steph Boyer and Evan Taylor-Hurley brought a renewed offering to the young adults in our community. During your twenties to early thirties there are so many new experiences and challenges, like finding a career, making rent, buying that first condo/home, dating, marriage, and beginning a family. In the midst of these adventures Steph and Evan wanted to create a program for encouragement, worship, scripture, prayer, and cookies. It has been a joyful success. If you are looking for a place to catch your breath during your busy week... we invite you to come. Come as you are and weeks when you can! Every Thursday night 7:30-9am in the Fireside Room. Questions contact Steph Boyer – stephboyay@yahoo.com or Evan Taylor Hurley – etaylorhurley@gmail.com.
